WHAT IS A NATURE PRESCHOOL?
The Natural Start Alliance defines a nature preschool as "a school that [puts] nature at the heart of the program, [is] based on high quality early childhood education and environmental education practices, and [lays] a foundation for environmental literacy."
WHAT TIME OF YEAR DOES NOLA NATURE SCHOOL OPERATE?
NOLA Nature School operates throughout the year from September until June and takes a hiatus during the height of the summer heat in July and August.
WHAT AGES DOES NOLA NATURE SCHOOL SERVE?
Our Saturday classes are open to two groups of children. Children ages 1 - 2 will be in the Parent-Child Class, whereas children over age 3 participate in Science Saturdays.
The NOLA Nature School Pre-Kindergarten is open to children age 3 and older.
ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
Tuition is offered on a sliding scale for those who meet our criteria. This is determined with an in-person interview.
WHERE IS NOLA NATURE SCHOOL LOCATED?
City Park's Couturie Forest at 1009 Harrison Avenue.
ARE MEALS PROVIDED?
Wholesome snacks--whole grain bread, dairy, fresh seasonal fruit--and water are provided each day.
WHAT CLOTHES AND GEAR WILL MY CHILD NEED?
We walk a lot and are not afraid of tree branches, grasses, puddles, bugs, and mud. Check out our gear list for what your child will need to bring.
WHAT ABOUT WHEN IT RAINS/IS COLD/IS HOT?
When it rains we will have class. When it is cold, we will have class. When it is hot, we will have class (and water and shade).
In case of severe weather where it would not be safe for us to be outside we have secured emergency shelter in partnership with City Park.
The Pre-Kindergarten will follow Orleans Parish in determining school closings.
